Anniversary year for participation in
annual Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics

May 31, 2012:  On Thursday, June 7, 2012, students in the Halton District School Board will join members of the Halton Regional Police Service for the annual Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics. There will be three separate runs happening on the same day each in Burlington, Oakville and Milton. Board administrators and senior police officers will be in attendance at all three sites.

2012 marks the 25th anniversary of the torch run and the 10th year of partnership with the Halton District School Board.

At approximately 9 a.m., opening ceremonies will take place at St John's Catholic School in Burlington (Glenview Public School choir will be performing), W.H. Morden Public School in Oakville, and Robert Baldwin Public School in Milton. After the ceremonies, Burlington and Oakville participants will meet at Fothergill Woods Park (located at Amanda Crescent and New Street in Burlington) for a lunch, with festivities provided by Halton police.

The Milton run will start with its own opening ceremony at Robert Baldwin Public School while a post-run barbecue will be held at Halton Regional Police, Division #12, located at 490 Childs Dr. Special Olympian representatives will be attendance.

Spectators are encouraged to cheer on the participants along the route.

The Law Enforcement Torch Run, in partnership with the Ontario Association of Chiefs of Police, encompasses a variety of fundraising initiatives that benefit the athletes in Ontario with an intellectual disability who are involved in Special Olympics programs.
