Trustee Andréa Grebenc acclaimed as Chair, Trustee Tracey Ehl Harrison acclaimed as Vice-Chair
At the Board meeting on Wednesday, Dec. 5, 2018, the 11 trustees of the Halton District School Board were sworn in, forming the Board for the 2018-2022 term. Eight trustees are returning to their positions, with three new trustees elected as part of the municipal election in October 2018.
Following the swearing-in ceremony, trustees elected the Chair and Vice-Chair for the upcoming year. This is an annual process with the 11 Halton District School Board trustees choosing from within their colleagues for these roles, for a term of one year.
Incumbent Chair Andréa Grebenc was acclaimed as Chair for 2018/19, and Incumbent Vice-Chair Tracey Ehl Harrison was acclaimed as Vice-Chair for 2018/19.
“As your trustees, we will continue to vigorously support student achievement and well-being, to challenge the status quo in funding -- demanding equity and transparency, and to fight for the schools we need,” says Andréa Grebenc, Chair of the Halton District School Board. “We have a lot of work ahead of us, but as a team, we will prevail.”
As a result of the October 2018 municipal elections, the three new trustees who will serve on the Board for the 2018-2022 term include Heather Gerrits, Wards 3 and 4, Milton; Tanya Rocha, Wards 3 and 6, Oakville; and Margo Shuttleworth, Ward 4, Burlington.
Tanya Rocha, elected in Wards 3 and 6, Oakville will be sworn in at a Special Board Meeting scheduled for Wednesday, Dec. 12, 2018 at 6 p.m. at the J.W. Singleton Education Centre in Burlington. This meeting will be immediately followed by a Committee of the Whole meeting.
The regular schedule of Board meetings will resume in January, with the first meeting slated for Wednesday, Jan. 9, 2019. The entire upcoming meeting schedule for the Halton District School Board is posted on the Board website at hdsb.ca.
