A message from Stuart Miller, Director of Education for the Halton District School Board, about the continuity of learning during the Ontario school closure.
Hi everyone, I’m Stuart Miller, Director of Education for the Halton District School Board and I’m here today to talk about our plans for learning continuity or in other words how are we going to continue to deliver education to your children, our students.
First of all, I want to acknowledge the challenges that you are all personally facing, both students and parents alike, fears of around health, economic challenges, mounting job losses.
We want to try our best to alleviate at least one of those anxieties by delivering good quality education to your children. It is an enormous task facing us. We have 65,000 students in the board and we need to deliver education in a way that we have never done so before.
We will be delivering it to all students, primarily through on-line, but we’ll consider those with special needs, students with English as a Second Language. We promise to do our best to deliver quality education. I have every confidence in our teachers to do so. They chose this profession because they care about kids, they care about the society they live in.
I ask that you be patient and be flexible with our staff though as they are living under the same stresses and anxieties as you are.
Finally I would just like to comment and ask you to give a thought to our health care workers and all those keeping our supply chains for food and other essential goods viable and working. Many of our students are actually working in grocery stores, so please give a thought to them.
Thank you so very much for being patient and we will do our utmost best to support you and your children’s learning goals.
Thank you
