Motivational speaker and drummer Troy Sexton, led the conference, enlightening students with his journey to achieve his goals. Troy’s interactive drumming performance radiated positive energy, leaving students inspired.

Trustee Joanna Oliver was present to observe the assembly, after which classes participated in teacher-led breakout sessions. In groups, students engaged in various learning opportunities, which included a social-emotional skill-building circle, energizer games, goal-setting using my Blueprint, and an interactive small group drumming session. Through these learning experiences, students were engaged in learning how to empower their voices, positively influence others and connect with their peers.

To conclude this eventful day, Grade 8 participants were given the opportunity to share their personal take on the conference.
"The event got me thinking about being a good leader and how other kids see us so we should be a good example to them. The community circle inspired me to reflect on initiative, like how we can contribute to helping the community."
-Fizzah, Grade 8
"All the students and teachers at our school are really respectful and kind, which made the day a lot of fun to interact with everyone."
-Justin, Grade 8
"The leadership day felt really inclusive because people were very nice to each other. The drum circle was great because everyone was drumming, then one person got to do a special beat that we all followed. When I had my turn to do the beat, I felt like a strong leader."
-Colin, Grade 8
"I found the leadership conference really inspiring! Getting to work with all Grade 8s at our school was great. Everyone was included and I liked having new experiences working with different peers, doing engaging activities."
