HDSB Social Workers, along with the Mental Health and Addiction Nurses, will be offering a series of mental health and wellness sessions for students each month.

Each month, a new topic will be covered in a 45-minute Google Meet with the intention of providing strategies to improve sleep, boost mood and manage stress. These 45-minute drop-in sessions will be offered several times in the month. Whether you are dropping in on your phone or joining us from home, make yourself comfortable and listen in! These short mini-sessions will be offered during the school day and after school.

Mini Info Topics

  • October: Improve your Sleep - Discussing why we need good sleep, what gets in the way of good sleep and what we can improve.
  • November: Boosting your Mood - Winter blues are around the corner and this is the time we may start to feel run down and blah. This session will offer ways to fight the “blues”
  • December: Managing Difficult Feelings - Sometimes our emotions can be overwhelming. This session will offer some tips on how to manage our intense emotions.
  • January: Stress Busting - This time of year can feel challenging and stressful as the semester wraps up. This session will provide ways to help deal more effectively with feeling “stressed out”

If you are interested in any of these Mini Info Topic sessions, please sign up.

The following confidential groups will be offered to students in Grade 9-12 once a week for six weeks starting in November. All groups will be held virtually and students should be comfortable having their camera on for the duration of the group sessions.

  • T.R.A.I.L.S. Anxiety: will focus on learning skills and coping techniques proven to reduce symptoms of anxiety. Group will run for six weeks on Thursdays: Nov. 4 - Dec. 9, 2021 from 3:30 - 4:30 p.m. via Google Meet
  • Skills for Regulating Emotions and Tolerating Distress: will offer an in-depth look at strategies and skills to improve coping with difficult emotions and healthy ways of responding to them. The group will run for six weeks on Mondays: Nov. 1 - Dec. 6, 2021 from 5 - 6 p.m. via Google Meet

If you are interested in either of these groups, please register using the following form.
