“I’ve always heard students casually throw around fantastic ideas to enhance our school environment. Unfortunately, many of these valuable ideas are often disregarded because students lack a platform to bring them to life. I believe that the best solutions come from the minds of those who experience the issues firsthand. This became the main inspiration behind SolveXchange, to create an accessible platform with a focus on empowering students to become the driving force behind transformative change.” - Emily Liu (SolveXchange Founder & President)
Over the past semester, the first term of SolveXchange was conducted and students at Iroquois Ridge High School dedicated themselves to crafting sustainable solutions. They then submitted their proposals to a school-wide competition where the winning entry earns the opportunity to receive support for actual implementation.
We are thrilled to announce the ultimate winner of the 2023 School-Wide Competition, Jibril Mian. Jibril is a grade 12 student at Iroquois Ridge High School who is driven by his passion for the art of public speaking. Since the pandemic, Jibril observed a concerning trend within his academic community—increased anxiety before class presentations. Recognizing the lasting significance of public speaking, he proposed to implement a sustainable public speaking workshop within the school to help students improve their confidence. This is a bi-weekly initiative that emphasizes student-led activities, fostering an inclusive environment where every voice is valued. Special events will also take place, featuring a panel of inspiring keynote speakers and engaging self-development lessons.
“We commend Jibril who worked diligently for months to create a well-structured, professional proposal. He went above and beyond in considering the impact this club will bring to IRHS students and demonstrated exceptional attention to detail for the feasibility aspect of the plan.” - Dinumi Premawardena (Vice President)
In the upcoming months, SolveXchange continues to strive in inspiring passionate students to become catalysts for positive change. The second term of the club will be conducted, inviting students from all over Halton to participate. Students will be given the opportunity to propose solutions to challenges they face in their community!
