How can we find out more information?

To supplement the above information, we also provide the following FAQ that may address situations that are more specific to you and your family:

Planning Services and HSTS will be updating the Find My Local School and Transportation Eligibility (April 2022) sites with this information. The FAQ section below has also been provided to address situations that may be more specific to you and your family.

That said, we encourage you to contact Planning Services if you have any questions with regards to where to direct students. Please contact Planning Services by email at plan@hdsb.ca or by phone at 905-335-3663.

Frequently Asked Questions
Q: Why is a redirection necessary?
At this time, Milton #12 ps will not be ready to open for September 2022, as construction has yet to commence, and the Board awaits final approvals to begin construction.
The current five (5) Milton #12 ps holding schools are witnessing pressures that will preclude them from accommodating ongoing growth generated from the future catchment area. Therefore using Rattlesnake Point will allow for these students to be housed at one community as opposed to several.
Q: What is the construction status of Milton SW #12?
The Board is awaiting final approvals to award the tender for the construction of the Milton #12 ps. Once approvals are granted, the Board has the necessary approvals to begin construction immediately afterwards.
Q: My child(ren) is/are currently attending FI and we live in the Milton SW #12 catchment can my grade 2 FI child attend Viola Desmond PS.
Milton SW #12 ps will be a dual-track school that will have English and FI programs located in the building. The FI program will begin in grade 2. To attend a different school you would have to apply through the optional attendance process to attend Viola Desmond PS.
Q: My child(ren) would like to attend the FI program. We live in Rattlesnake Point PS catchment,
Your child(ren) will be directed to Viola Desmond PS. Rattlesnake Point PS will be a single track English program school.
Q: Will transportation be provided to Rattlesnake Point PS?
Transportation will be provided for students that fall within the redirected area within the future Milton #12 ps catchment area (as per Transportation Eligibility guidelines for secondary schools).
Q: If I’m interested in Optional Attendance, can I apply to a different school?
To attend a different school you would have to apply through the optional attendance process.
Q: How do I determine if I am affected?
Attached is a map for your reference. The area in light purple is the Milton SW#12 ps catchment.
Tools such as Find My Local School (2022/2023 boundaries) and Transportation Eligibility (as of April 2022) can assist in helping you determine if you are impacted.
