When will the redirection begin?Post’s Corners PS (2220 Caldwell Drive) currently has 12 portables on site with space becoming very limited in accommodating future student enrolment. Higher than anticipated pressures are as a result of an increased number of students coming from the new high density residential units within the school’s current boundary. It has been determined that new student registrations will be redirected to Palermo PS (2561 Valleyridge Drive).
Effective May 30, 2023, the cap has now been reached and as a result, new student registrations will be redirected to Palermo PS (2561 Valleyridge Drive).
Who will be impacted?
The affected school community is the current Post’s Corners PS (English-stream) boundary. This impacts students who are not presently registered at Post’s Corners PS at the time the redirection is initiated. New Kindergarten to Grade 8 student registrations will be directed to Palermo PS on the effective date. Note that transportation will be provided to Palermo PS.
What does this mean for students in the Post’s Corners PS English boundary?
- There is no impact on students who are currently enrolled at Post’s Corners PS for Kindergarten to Grade 8.
- New Kindergarten to Grade 8 English-stream program registrations will be directed to Palermo PS.
- In the event students being redirected to Palermo PS have older sibling(s) currently attending Post’s Corners PS, families will have the option to have all siblings attend Palermo PS and be provided transportation.
What does this mean for French Immersion students within the Post’s Corners PS English boundary?
- There is no impact on French Immersion students.
- Grade 2 to 8 French Immersion students will continue to attend Sunningdale PS and new registrations will continue to register at Sunningdale PS.
When will the redirection end?
The redirection will reach a conclusion once the following occurs:
- Enrolment and/or classrooms utilization drop below the cap; and/or,
- The boundary review for Oakville NE #3 PS and Oakville NE #5 PS is completed and implemented, resulting in enrolment pressure relief at Post’s Corners PS.
Staff will conduct an annual review of the redirection to determine if the students who were redirected the previous year could be directed back to Post’s Corners PS. The order in which students could be redirected back will be based on a “first out first in” principle. Once all targeted classes have been filled, the redirection will continue to remain in place for the remainder of the year, until the next annual reassessment.
A redirection will be required to bridge the gap between current pressures and the eventual opening of Oakville NE #3 PS and Oakville NE #5 PS, and the implementation of the Boundary Review Process for North Oakville (set to begin in Spring 2023). The accommodation pressures at Post’s Corners PS are to be reviewed during this Boundary Review Process to identify long-term solutions in reducing pressures at the school.
