Grade 2 French Immersion Program Information Nights
In the Halton District School Board, the only entry point for the French Immersion program is Grade 2, with 100% instruction in French language. Registration for this program occurs during the last two weeks of January each year. The deadline to return the form to the home school is the last school day in January by 4:00pm.
A series of community information evenings are held in November and December to help address any questions parents/guardians may have before registering their Grade 1 child(ren) for the French Immersion program.
For more details about the information evening, please visit our French Immersion Information Nights doc, or watch our
Grade 2 Parent Information: French Immersion Program video.

Families who arrive in Halton after the deadline date for the Grade 2 registration are still permitted to submit a registration form as they arrive, only until the week before Thanksgiving weekend.

Students transitioning into French Immersion
Students may enter a French Immersion program if they meet the following conditions:
- Students are coming from a French Immersion program where the hours of instruction in French are equal to or greater than the HDSB French Immersion program.
- Students demonstrate a level of fluency (speaking, reading and writing) equal to students in the French Immersion program resulting from regular opportunities to speak French at home or with francophones. This will be demonstrated through a French language assessment done at the Welcome Centre.
