Removed Redirection

Jan 8, 2025 Notice:

The Board of Trustees has approved Option 6a for the South Milton / Milton SE #13 PS boundary review. As outlined in the report 24158, the redirection period will officially conclude on June 30, 2025.

Grade 2 students or new to the area students electing the French Immersion and reside in the proposed Cedar Ridge PS catchment will be directed to Tiger Jeet Singh PS.

For more information, review the South Milton / Milton SE #13 PS Boundary Review

Cedar Ridge PS, opened to students from Kindergarten to Grade 7 in Sept. 2024 with Grade 8 to be added in Sept. 2025. Enrolments into Grade 2 French Immersion (FI) did not meet the minimum threshold of students required for a successful program. Students residing in the Cedar Ridge PS catchment who have elected French Immersion for Grade 2 will be redirected to Irma Coulson PS. (625 Sauve St)

Who will be impacted?

Only families who reside within the Cedar Ridge PS catchment area (bounded by Regional Road 25, Louis St. Laurent Avenue, James Snow Parkway, and Britannia Road - see map) will be affected. Starting in Sept. 2024, students in this catchment area will be directed as follows:
  • English-track Kindergarten to Grade 7 students will attend Cedar Ridge PS
  • English-track Grade 8 students will attend Rattlesnake Point PS in Sept. 2024 in order to maintain continuity into their graduating year. Students starting Grade 8 in Sept. 2025 will attend Cedar Ridge PS
  • NEW Action: French Immersion Grade 2 students will attend Irma Coulson PS
  • French Immersion Grades 3 to 8 students will attend Irma Coulson PS
The following map identifies the areas affected by the redirection, specifically the areas bound in red.

How can we find out more information?

To supplement the above information, we also provide the following FAQ that may address situations that are more specific to you and your family:

Planning Services and HSTS will be updating the Find My Local School and Transportation Eligibility sites with this information. The FAQ section below has also been provided to address situations that may be more specific to you and your family.

That said, we encourage you to contact Planning Services if you have any questions with regard to where to direct students. Please contact Planning Services by email at plan@hdsb.ca or by phone at 905-335-3663.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why is a redirection necessary?
Preregistration into French Immersion grade 2 did not meet the minimum requirement enrollment to support a successful program at this school. French Immersion students in grades 3 to 8 who reside in the Milton SW #12 ps catchment attend Irma Coulson PS. The implementation will ensure all French Immersion students in the area attend the same school. This will help to create a stronger and more cohesive French Immersion program and community.
What is the construction status of Milton SW #12?
Milton Sw #12 ps is scheduled to open in September 2024.
My child(ren) is/are currently attending FI and we live in the Milton SW #12 catchment can my grade 2 FI child attend Viola Desmond PS.
To attend a different school you would have to apply through the optional attendance process.
Will transportation be provided to Irma Coulson PS?
Transportation will be provided for students that fall within the redirected area within the future Milton #12 ps catchment area (as per Transportation Eligibility guidelines for secondary schools).
How do I determine if I am affected?
Below is a map for your reference.
Tools such as Find My Local School (2024/2025 boundaries) and Transportation Eligibility can assist in helping you determine if you are impacted. It is advisable that you contact Planning Services if you have any questions (905-335-3663, planhalton@hdsb.ca).
