The Halton District School Board is proud to announce two additional recipients of the
Schulich Leader Scholarships –
Tudor Barsan, a Grade 12 student at Iroquois Ridge High School and
Lucas Komljenovic, a Grade 12 student at Thomas A. Blakelock High School. Barsan’s scholarship is valued at $80,000 and Komljenovic’s scholarship is valued at $100,000 to study Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) in their post-secondary education.
Selected for their outstanding academic achievement and involvement in extracurricular activities, Barsan and Komljenovic are among 100 recipients to receive this scholarship in Canada, and join previously announced Schulich Leader Scholarship recipient Robert Firsov, a Grade 12 student at Oakville Trafalgar High School (OTHS).
Enrolled this fall at the University of Waterloo, Barsan hopes for a career in the field of innovative technology.
“I am extremely thankful toward those who have surrounded and supported me throughout this extensive journey,” he says. “Receiving the Schulich Leader Scholarship has been a dream come true and I look forward to the outstanding opportunities that come with it.”
“When we were informed of Tudor's award, we were not only pleased for him but proud of his accomplishments,” says John Stieva, Principal at Iroquois Ridge HS. “He is a very deserving young man who worked hard to accomplish his goals. Iroquois Ridge High School is proud to call Tudor one of its own. We wish him all the best for the future and know that he will continue to make us proud.”
Enrolled this fall at Queen's University, Komljenovic plans to pursue a business degree with the goal of starting his own engineering firm.
“I am extremely honoured and excited to have received this award,” Komljenovic says. “Being able to fully explore my curiosities in STEM without financial stress is a dream come true. I’m grateful for the teachers, communities, and clubs that have enabled me to become a Schulich Leader by fostering my love for learning and leading.”
Jonathan Shoss, Principal at T.A. Blakelock HS, says: “The Blakelock school community is so proud of Lucas. He is heavily involved in student leadership and is deeply respected by his peers. We know he will go to do amazing things and make the world a better place for everyone.”
