To support those experiencing homelessness, Post’s Corner Public School in Oakville organized a drive to fill a Smart car with socks - and did they ever!
The school collected approximately 700 pairs of new socks for
Socks for the Streets. The organization is a non-profit, primarily volunteer-run organization committed to providing homeless people with warmth, comfort, dignity, mobility and health through new socks.
“People living without a home need to walk to access support and services. Without access to laundry facilities, they may wear the same socks for days until they can be replaced,” says Beth Hudson, Principal at Post’s Corners PS. “This initiative helps to provide warmth, comfort, mobility and health to Canada's homeless."

Hudson applauded the hard work of Educational Assistants Karen Addison and Andrea Chan for organizing this socks-collecting initiative.
“Creating awareness about people who face significant challenges is important, and this is a very real way of helping communities,” Hudson says. “Our socks drive follows our annual food drive and both initiatives inspire our school community in many ways that make a difference for others.”
Students were happy the school organized this socks drive.
“I want them to feel loved and accepted.” - Mason, Grade 5 student
“We want to share what we have to start a chain of kindness.” - Quorra, Grade 4 student
Hudson says Post’s Corners PS fosters mental health and well-being - one of the five areas of focus in the
HDSB's Multi-Year Plan - and “we do this in the care we give to others in our school community and beyond.”
