Numerous events and activities celebrating all areas of learning will be held throughout the region as the Halton District School Board joins other Ontario public school boards in celebrating Education Week May 1-7, 2017.
Focusing on Canada's 150th birthday, this year's Education Week theme is called, Ontario150. Ontario is supporting events and programs that showcase diverse communities. In Halton, the annual weeklong recognition includes a wide variety of activities that demonstrate education in action, celebrate teaching excellence and student achievement.
The Board is proud to recognize the success of students through its annual Celebration of Student Excellence event. It will be held on Thursday, May 4 at Georgetown District High School, 70 Guelph Street, Georgetown, starting at 7:30 p.m. Students will be recognized for demonstrating outstanding qualities in numerous areas.
The following is a sample of events organized throughout the Halton District School Board during Education Week:
All Burlington high schools: On May 2, Grade 9 students will be attending the annual Burlington YouthFest leadership conference.
McKenzie-Smith Bennett and Robert Little Public Schools (Acton): McKenzie-Smith Bennett and Robert Little Public Schools are co-hosting on May 2 a 'Celebration of Learning" in which teachers and students will be sharing with parents various learning including math, literacy, robotics and French.
Hawthorne Village Public School (Milton): The school is hosting its 10th annual Literacy and Arts Day on May 5. The theme is 'Our Story, Your Story, My Story' featuring more than 25 workshops and keynote speakers focusing on the connections between literacy and the arts.
Sunningdale Public School (Oakville): Female students are traveling to Toronto to attend the Skills Ontario Young Women's Conference on May 1.
