More than 4,700 students from Burlington, Halton Hills, Milton and Oakville attended Grade 12 in the Halton District School Board this year. Of all these students, many graduates are preparing to embark on a new journey at university or college in the fall.
To celebrate the accomplishments of our graduates, we’ve profiled a few of the many students from across our Board who are receiving scholarships and awards for post-secondary education this year.
Sidrah Rana, graduate of White Oaks SS is a recipient of a
Schulich Leader Scholarship.
Schulich Leaders demonstrate academic excellence and leadership. The scholarship is awarded to a student intending to pursue a career in scientific research, technology, engineering or innovation.
Sidrah credits the
International Baccalaureate (IB) program at White Oaks SS for enabling her to develop an effective work ethic given the program’s deadline driven environment. In the IB program, students are introduced to high level science topics and skills. This exposure peaked Sidrah’s interest in pursuing out-of-school scientific research opportunities and extracurriculars, which she says helped her receive her scholarship.
Having successfully completed the IB program, Sidrah feels confident and prepared for university. “White Oaks’ IB program taught me how to cope and manage an intense and vigorous workload that simulates university.”
Graduates from the IB program can qualify for advanced standing at universities as their IB course credits are often recognized as transfer credits.
Sidrah intends to purse a mathematical and physical sciences degree at the University of Toronto.
We wish all our graduates success as they begin the next chapter of their lives.
