The Halton District School Board (HDSB) Student Trustees, in coordination with the Human Rights, Equity & Inclusive Education Department, are proud to welcome students from schools across the Board to address system inequalities through the launch of the HDSB Student Equity Committee. The Student Equity Committee is an organization made up of students from across the system who lend their voices and lived experiences to find board-wide solutions to issues of inequities that impact student experience. The overarching purpose of this committee is to encourage solution-oriented dialogue between the Board and students to address issues of racism, discrimination and various other inequities that impact student experiences.
In alignment with the HDSB’s commitment to the
Multi-Year Strategic Plan (Equity & Inclusion - champion supportive and inclusive practices to ensure equitable access to positive opportunities and outcomes for all) and
Human Rights Equity Action and Accountability Plan: The Way Forward (Priority: 2.3 Create and enhance school board structures to promote and ensure human rights and equity), the Student Equity Committee seeks to ensure that the voices and perspectives of students of all identities should be heard and expressed in a forum where they can safely share their experiences and provide feedback and recommendations on how best to promote and ensure human rights and equity within the HDSB.
The committee is comprised of students divided evenly across Halton:
- Secondary Representatives: Four Secondary Student Reps from each area of Halton:
- Two Junior Reps (Grade 9 - 10)
