Nov. 6, 2020 - Join the HDSB Parent Involvement Committee (PIC)
Nov. 6, 2020
Dear HDSB parents/guardians,
The HDSB is looking for parents/guardians to join the Parent Involvement Committee (PIC). PIC supports, encourages, and enhances parental engagement at the Board level to improve student achievement and well-being. In the past, PIC has focused on a well-attended parent conference covering a wide range of subjects, as well as parent information evenings. This year, much of our work will be undertaken virtually.
Although this year will look different from years past, we still plan to achieve our purpose by communicating with and supporting school councils, undertaking activities to help parents/guardians support their children’s learning, and providing information and advice on parent engagement to the Board.
PIC consists of 12 parents/guardians, serving one or two-year terms, representing all regions of the HDSB.
PIC members commit to participating in four public meetings per year, some planning meetings and possibly committee work.
PIC representatives are appointed by the Superintendent of Education responsible for Parent Community Engagement, PIC co-chairs, a parent/guardian member and a Trustee.
PIC members are chosen based on their interest in working with parents/guardians and staff to support school councils and parent engagement as well as prior volunteer experience and geographical need - this year we need new members from Burlington, Halton Hills and Milton.
If you are interested in becoming a member of PIC, please complete
this form by Monday, Nov. 16, 2020.
Please join PIC for our first Public meeting on December 3 (details to follow).
To learn more, please visit the
PIC page on the HDSB website or reach out to your school principal.
Thank you,
John Pennyfather
Superintendent of Education
Halton District School Board
The Halton District School Board’s Parent Involvement Committee (PIC) recognizes parents/guardians play a vital role in the development and education of their children and in the success of schools and therefore provides a regular opportunity to network, share ideas, offer input and enjoy informative presentations on a number of education related topics throughout the school year.
PIC makes parental engagement a priority by providing ongoing system-wide support and promoting communication between parents/guardians, the Board and members of the community, while school councils focus on the local school and community.
Ontario's PRO Grants are designed to support parents in identifying barriers to engagement in their own community and to find local solutions to involve more parents in support of student achievement and well-being.
The Halton District School Board was awarded $82,900 for the 2018-2019 PRO Grants. This funding was to support 83 School Councils and 1 regional/provincial project.
