Partnerships

Partnerships are very important to the Halton District School Board. They allow us to leverage the expertise and resources of qualified organizations that can assist us in effectively improving student achievement and well-being for all of our students. Our partners include community organizations, post-secondary institutions, businesses, charitable foundations, municipalities and health care providers and more.

Tim Hortons Foundation Camps

Tim Hortons Foundation Camps supports kids from challenging circumstances between the ages of 12 to 16 at the time in their lives when they are determining who they will become as adults. Through the Community Leaders Program (CLP) they welcome schools from low‑income neighbourhoods for two distinct three day, two night trips to camp. Students leave their school community to participate in camp experiences designed to develop life and leadership skills which provide the building blocks for youth engagement. Between camp visits, students challenge themselves with constructive actions and each group creates their own community service project. The program inspires students to instill positive cultural change in their schools and fosters a commitment to making their communities better places. Tim Hortons Foundation Camps currently supports the HDSB by providing free CLP camp visits for two Burlington elementary schools.

The Halton Environmental Network

The Halton Environmental Network (HEN) is an incorporated non-profit organization operating in the Region of Halton, Ontario (Burlington, Halton Hills, Milton, and Oakville). HEN programs include Halton Green Screens and Greening Sacred Spaces. In addition, HEN facilitates and animates numerous Climate Change initiatives. HEN collaborates with environmental groups, other non-profit organizations, businesses, governments, and the public. HEN has been effectively engaging the Halton community since 2004.

HEN supports the HDSB by delivering free content based workshops for students and teachers as well as other environmental sustainability initiatives. H.E.N. will be presenting two workshops at our upcoming Human Rights Symposium.

Special Olympics

Special Olympics Ontario is dedicated to enriching the lives of Ontarians with an intellectual disability through sport. Over the past 50 years Special Olympics has grown from a modest program serving local athletes to become the world’s largest movement dedicated to promoting respect, acceptance, inclusion, and human dignity for people with intellectual disabilities through sports.Special Olympics Ontario has optimized the benefits of a healthy and active lifestyle through sport to improve the well-being of individuals with an intellectual disability.

Special Olympics Ontario supports the HDSB through the development of HDSB supported events involving students with an intellectual disability. They also provide Professional Development and Educational sessions for educators, board staff, and students as well as National Coaching Certification Programs (NCCP) in Coaching Young Athletes and Fundamental Movement skills. Last Year Special Olympics Ontario provided 2 multi sport days for students at the Mattamy National Cycling centre. The multisport days were enjoyed by more than 200 students from across Halton. We are looking forward to more sporting events in the 19-20 school Year.

Rick Hansen Foundation

The Rick Hansen Foundation (RHF) is a registered Canadian charity (registration # 10765 9427 RR 0001) that creates and delivers innovative solutions that lead to a global movement to remove barriers and liberate the potential of people with disabilities. For over thirty years since the Man In Motion World Tour, Rick Hansen and The Rick Hansen Foundation,(RHF), have improved the lives of people with disabilities by removing barriers and demonstrating the possibilities of an inclusive world. The Rick Hansen Foundation has raised more than $360-million dollars towards the care and cure for spinal cord injury and other innovations that address improving accessibility for people with disabilities.

The Rick Hansen Foundation School Program (RHFSP) supports the HDSB by offering in-school presentations and comprehensive resources for Administrators, teachers and students designed to empower students and increase disability awareness, accessibility, inclusion. The Rick Hansen Ambassadors Program who showcases personal stories of individuals with a range of disabilities overcoming the challenges they face in life and thriving. The Rick Hansen Foundation signed a partnership agreement with the HDSB in June 2019. They will be will be presenting two workshops at our upcoming Human Rights Symposium.

Georgetown Youth Hub -Town of Halton Hills

The HDSB partners with all of the municipalities on a variety of projects. The Georgetown Youth Hub is a great example of how we can work together to support the young people in our communities. Using a “Community Hubs: Minor Retrofits and Accessibility Funding” grant , Gary Allan High School North Halton Hills was renovated in the spring of 2019, to provide a state of the art kitchen and accessible washrooms to be used by the Youth Hub during the evening and weekend hours and by Gary Allan High school during the day. Located in the centre of Georgetown it is the perfect location to provide Youth with food security opportunities, a safe welcoming place to go after school as well as access to youth services such as employment training. This is the second year for the Youth Hub at Gary Allan North. This past summer was the first year for the summer youth drop-in and we look forward to expanding programs with our partners in Halton Hills.
