What is Advanced Placement (AP)?

Advanced Placement (AP) exams allow high school students who excel on these exams the opportunity to gain university credits* while still in high school.  These exams are written in May and are usually 2-3 hours in length.  Any student who pays the examination fee may write an AP exam, and those students who take AP courses are usually better prepared.  Students taking AP courses in HDSB will be assessed and evaluated on the Ontario Curriculum; the AP curriculum is built into the course as an  enhancement to the Ontario Curriculum.

Where are Advanced Placement Courses Available in HDSB?

The following HDSB schools currently offer AP courses or exams.

  • Abbey Park High School
  • Iroquois Ridge Secondary School
  • Milton District High School
  • Oakville Trafalgar High School

Schools offer a variety of course offerings and/or support for Advanced Placement,  please visit the school website for more information.

* The Advanced Placement curriculum is set by the College Board which is based in the United States. Check individual Ontario University websites for information specific to AP achievement requirements and credit transfer eligibility, as these vary by institution.
