Interview Preparation

Prior to the interview, we recommend that you review the job posting and think about the ways your experience relates to the posted position. Think of specific examples from your previous work, school or volunteer experiences that demonstrate your strengths, skills, and qualifications, including examples that have contributed to your personal growth. Review the HDSB website including the multi-year plan to help you better understand our organizational values, mission and values.

Interview Process

Ordinarily the interview team will consist of two or more people. You will be asked standardized questions; the interview team will make notes to assist them in remembering what you have said. During Covid-19 you may be invited to complete a digital interview. You will need a device with a microphone and webcam and a reliable internet connection.

In some cases, you may be asked to return for an additional interview(s) with a different interview team.

One of the ways to succeed in an interview is to ensure you are prepared. We strongly encourage you to arrive 10 to 15 minutes prior to your scheduled interview time to collect your thoughts and to review your resume. By planning to arrive early, you will minimize additional stressors that could arise in the event that you experience unexpected delays, such as traffic, finding an available parking space, getting lost, etc.

The interview is your opportunity to learn more about the role and our Board. Your interview affords an opportunity for you to see if you are a good fit for HDSB and, at the same time, provides you with an opportunity to determine if HDSB is a good fit for you!

Selection Process

The Halton District School Board’s recruitment processes includes:

Criminal Record Check

The Halton District School Board has the responsibility, under the Education Act, to provide a safe and secure working and learning environment for students and employees.

The Board is in a position of trust with regard to students and must strive to protect their intellectual, physical, mental, and emotional well-being. The Halton District School Board will not employ or continue to employ persons who have criminal records and/or patterns of behaviour that may place students at risk.

New Employees

All offers of employment with the Board are conditional upon the applicant supplying an acceptable Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Screening. A Criminal Record Check is a document concerning an individual:

that was prepared by a police force or service from the national data on the Canadian Police Information Centre (CPIC) database within six (6) months before the date the Board collects the document; and
that contains information concerning the individual’s Personal Criminal History information on criminal offences of which the individual has been convicted under the Criminal Records Act (Canada) and for which a pardon under Section 4.1 of the Criminal Records Act (Canada) has not been issued or granted to the individual.

Returning Employees

If an individual terminates their employment with the Board and is then rehired within one (1) year of their original termination, the Human Resources Department will request completion of an Offence Declaration upon the date of rehire. If the date of rehire occurs beyond one (1) year from the date of termination, the Board requires the employee to submit an acceptable Criminal Record Check.
