M.M. Robinson High School
This fall, students at M.M. Robinson High School have been developing their United Student Body (USB), a ground up approach to Student Leadership. The USB consists of a Board of Directors, secretary, communications manager and promotes the continued focus on Student Voice as a collective.
Students Shaza N. and Ben C. attended the October 3, 2018 Board meeting and shared the many opportunities for all students at M.M. Robinson H.S., including a perspective on improved course options and extra curricular activities. A video of their presentation is available

M.M. Robinson students and staff entered the building in September with renovated spaces. These include new lockers throughout, a renovated atrium, technology program redesign and new Community Pathway Program spaces. The work continued outside of the building with new siding, roofing, and front entry as well as an outdoor learning space. A video overview of the renovations at M.M. Robinson is available

On November 15, 2018, M.M. Robinson H.S. hosted their Grade 9 Information Night for students coming to M.M. Robinson in September, 2019. There were 700 - 800 people that braved the first snow event of the year to attend this evening. The PAR has made a commitment to monitor French program at M.M. Robinson. The school is working to promote the robust program at the school. This evening was an opportunity to hear about the French Immersion program. It proved very popular … Standing room only!
International Baccalaureate (IB) at Burlington Central High School
J. Bright, the IB Coordinator at Robert Bateman High School, is supporting the IB program transition at Burlington Central High School (BCHS) during the 2018-2019 school year.
Effective September 2019, the Accelerated Learning Program for grade 9 students will start at Burlington Central. In grades 9 and 10 students are clustered together in academic classes (electives and phys ed are open sections) of like minded students who intend on pursuing the IB pathway.
The Grade 9 Parent Information session was held at BCHS on November 8, 2018, supported by current RBHS IB staff: S. Bowden, T. Bright, J. Bright, M. Buyers, R. Daly, L. Grinton, D. Papadopoulos, C. Roberto, and V. Visconti. Students and families were provided an overview of the program and IB staff and BCHS administrators responded to questions. Effective September 2020, the Burlington Accelerated Learning and IB Programs will be located at BCHS for grades 9 - 12.
Aldershot I-STEM
On November 13, 2018, an Open House was held at Aldershot School to provide an overview of the I-STEM program, coming for September 2019. More than 1300 people attended the event hosted by school staff, Board staff and advisory partners.
The evening included a panel discussion of the vision of the program, the opportunities for students and their roles in partnering with I-STEM.

Robert Bateman H.S. and Nelson H.S.
While there is no formal integration process occuring during the 2018-2019 school year, staff from both Robert Bateman H.S. and Nelson H.S. are working together to create opportunities for students.
In the 2019-2020 school year, two integration committees will be formed:
- Robert Bateman and Nelson
- Robert Bateman and Burlington Central
Current students in grade 8 in the Robert Bateman H.S. catchment will be attending Nelson H.S. for grades 9 - 12 effective September 2019. For students living south of the 403/QEW, Nelson will be the location for grade 9 Essential Program (note: students living north of the 403/QEW entering the grade 9 Essential Program will attend M.M. Robinson H.S.). Nelson High School’s Grade 9 Information Night is November 21, 2018 at 6:30 p.m.
Looking ahead to the 2019-2020 School Year
Effective September, 2019, students entering:
- English program (gr. 9 only) from Robert Bateman H.S. catchment will attend Nelson H.S.
- Accelerated Learning program (gr. 9 only) from Burlington will attend Burlington Central H.S.
Note: This grade 9 and 10 program is for students who intend on pursuing the International Baccalaureate program in grades 11 and 12 - Essential program (gr. 9 only) will attend M.M. Robinson H.S. (north) or Nelson H.S. (south)
M.M. Robinson will add: - Grade 10 essential program in 2021-2022;
- Grade 11 workplace program in 2022-2023;
- grade 12 workplace program in 2023-2024.
- Students in gr. 9 gifted placement at Nelson High school 2019-2020 will be grandfathered at Nelson to the end of grade 12
- LEAP program (gr. 8) will attend M.M. Robinson H.S. (north) or Nelson (south)
Note: Students entering the Community Pathways Program (grade 9/year 1) will attend Robert Bateman H.S. All students in the Community Pathways Program will move to Nelson High School, as one group, in September 2020.
