Lester B. Pearson Celebrations

The Patriot Games were held on Friday June 1 with alumni, current staff and students participating and/or watching the many events. The internationally acclaimed Burlington Teen Tour band opened the games as part of the pep rally. Those attending enjoyed face painting, a photo booth, food trucks, fireworks and friendship.

Pictures from Friday night’s events are available via the celebratelbp.com website.

Saturday’s Closing Celebrations saw a full house to tour Lester B. Pearson school with decades rooms filled with memorabilia and opportunities to connect with staff and students - past and present.  A video of the Closing Celebration Ceremony is available here.

The Closing Celebration was emceed by former LBP Vice Principal, Nigel Scott. The event included well-known alumnus and celebrity, Sarah Harmer, opening the ceremony with O Canada. Speakers included Patricia Pearson, granddaughter of Lester B. Pearson; David Katz, Founding Principal; Loraine Fedurco, Current Principal; Bonnie Manning and Robert Parnaby, Faculty Alumni; Russell Oates and Emily DiMatteo, Student Alumni; Judith Genis, current faculty and Kaiya Jarvis, Graduating Pearson Student.

Additionally, the Alumni Choir, consisting of former students sang “Morning Glow” and “Gone, Gone, Gone” as part of the ceremony and a video “Pearson throughout the Years” was created and shared with attendees. The ceremony was followed by a reception as an opportunity to continue to share memories and celebrate the school.

Throughout the 2017-2018 school year, the Lester B. Pearson Celebrations Committee worked tirelessly to plan closing celebrations. Their commitment, planning and Patriot passion resulted in two days of amazing celebration.

Lester B. Pearson and M.M. Robinson Town Halls for Students

Students at both Lester B. Pearson and M.M. Robinson participated in Town Halls at their respective schools. The purpose of a Town Hall is student voice - hearing from the students. These town halls provided an opportunity for staff from both schools, including M.M. Robinson Principal C. Proteau, to respond to student questions and listen to how they are feeling. An overview of the Town Halls is captured in this video.

Transitions for Students with Special Education Needs

Staff from Lester B. Pearson and M.M. Robinson continue to work together to support transitions for each student. Student Services and Student Success staff  have begun to share student information to further support student strengths and needs and transition planning.

May 25, 2018 was designated as a Transition Day for M.M. Robinson High School. This day provided the opportunity for over 35 students and their families to take individualized tours at M.M. Robinson.

Jason Bartlett, Chair of SEAC, has been part of the Lester B. Pearson/M.M. Robinson Integration Committee. He provided a committee update to the Special Education Advisory Committee on June 5, 2018. A video of this update information is available here.

An update on the construction of the outdoor learning space at M.M. Robinson for students in the Community Pathway Program is available via video here. There will also be an outdoor learning space at Nelson High School for 2020-2021, as part of the Community Pathway Program learning space design. Aldershot I-STEM

I-STEM-Chart-Graphic.pngOn April 19, 2018, staff, community members, postsecondary partners and representatives from businesses and non- profit community organizations came together for a full day of visioning. A video recap of the event is available here.

Staff are currently working to develop the 4- year program plan. Once finalized, we will re-engage with partners outside of the school to identify opportunities for student learning within and outside of the school.

Staff will be attending the Project-Based Learning summer institute and are developing a professional learning plan for 2018-2019 in preparation for September 2019.

Information regarding entry to the program and opportunities to attend an information session will be shared in early September 2018.
