Burlington Central, Nelson and Robert Bateman
200 plus staff from Burlington Central, Nelson and Robert Bateman collaborated at the recent February 15, 2019 Professional Activity Day. The principals of all 3 high schools designed the morning to provide staff with the opportunity to start/continue making connections. The morning together was spent exploring innovation, facilitated by Innovation Coaches from HDSB The Shift (video
here). As well as providing learning with activities that could be used in classrooms, the activities were also designed to contribute to building a sense of community among these South Burlington High Schools.
Nelson and Robert Bateman
In semester 2 of 2018-2019, the grade 12 leadership class at Nelson High School will be visiting Robert Bateman High School and combining with the Community Pathway Program classes to support their Health and Physical Education program. The Nelson students will act as peer mentors in community activities by taking on a leadership role in teaching skills, games of low organization and teamwork with the Robert Bateman students to promote and encourage participation in healthy living. Students from both schools will further develop social skills and friendships for this year, as well as in support of the students transitioning to Nelson in 2020.
International Baccalaureate (IB) at Burlington Central High School

Aldershot I-STEM
Students in the inaugural grade 9 class for I-STEM have been accepted and have submitted their option sheets for the 2019-2020 school year. As part of the application process, students were asked to respond to four questions:
- What excites you about innovation, science, technology, engineering and math?
- Describe your personal learning goals and reasons for wanting to be a part of the Aldershot School I-STEM Program.
- What are your passions and interests outside of school?
- What is one problem you would like to solve or big question you would like to explore as part of your learning in the I-STEM program?
The responses from student applications are inspiring!
