Working together to support student transitions 

We recognize the Burlington Secondary School Program Accommodation Review (PAR) has been a very emotional process within all of Burlington. Please know we are committed to working together to support transitions for every student and seek opportunities to celebrate and come together as a community.


PAR Updates will be published regularly and posted here. These  updates will provide Burlington school communities  with progress regarding the Board's approved recommendations as well as opportunities to be involved. Integration Committees

To successfully transition students and staff, strong transition planning and the implementation of our action plans is vital. According to Board policy, the Integration Committees will consist of the foll​owing people from each affected school:
  • the Superintendent of the school;
  • the school Principal;
  • the Trustee for the school; and
  • the School Council Chair or designate.
The Committee has the authority to invite additional members (e.g. students, staff, SEAC representation, HDSB Mental Health Lead, etc.).

The Integration Committees will be formed in the school year prior to student and staff transitions, following School Council elections.  
The following three committees will be formed: 
  • Lester B. Pearson/M.M. Robinson Integration Committee to be established in 2017-2018
  • Robert Bateman/Nelson Integration Committee to be established in 2019-2020
  • Robert Bateman/Burlington Central Integration Committeeto be established in​ 2019-2020​

Administrative Review​ Information

Administrative Reviews of the Burlington Secondary School PAR have been granted. Requests for these reviews were submitted to the Ministry of Education by the Lester B. Pearson and the Robert Bateman High School communities.

According to Ministry Guidelines, an administrative review is a process by which an independent, impartial
facilitator reviews that the Board has followed its pupil accommodation review policy. An administrative review is not an assessment of the decisions made by the Board of Trustees.

An independent third party review of our PAR policy and the Burlington PAR ensures we have followed our processes and provides an opportunity to address community concerns. It is important for the HDSB, the community and the Ministry of Education that the process is thoroughly examined and reviewed. 

During this review period, the HDSB will:
  • continue to keep student needs at the forefront,
  • collaboratively plan for and implement the Board’s decisions,
  • be cognizant of minimizing the expenditures of the implementation.​

Artifacts & Memorabilia​

Honouring and incorporating artifacts and other memorabilia from both Lester B. Pearson H.S. and Robert Bateman H.S. will be overseen by the Integration Committees with input from both schools. Some items may be relocated to the new school, and as such, no decisions have been made at this time. More details will be released when available.

Aldershot Focus Exploration​

Given the continued enrolment challenges at Aldershot High School, the Halton District School Board will explore a possible speciality program concept.

The school Council Chair/designate will be on the Aldershot High School Exploration Committee. There will be an opportunity for all Halton parents/guardians, as well as  the Halton community  and beyond to engage in this process. Anyone  is welcome  to submit  ideas to the committee via the Aldershot Exploration Suggestion Box.

​The Suggestion Box​ is open until October 20, 2017. Additionally, an Open House will be held on Monday,
November 13 from 5 - 7 pm (location to be determined).​​

Where​ ​will my child attend their first year of high school in Burlington in September 2018?​

One of the implications of the approved recommendations includes the creation of two comprehensive schools in Burlington,  one north of the 403/QEW and one south of the 403/QEW, offering a full range of programs​. This creates improved program options for all students. Additionally, students with special needs will be able to attend school closer to home. With the approved  recommendations, there will be some location changes beginning September 2018. Elementary feeder schools will be providing  this information to families. ​
