White Oaks Secondary School Student Among World’s Top Student Debaters
Dasha Metropolitansky, a Grade 12 White Oaks Secondary School student, competed in the World Schools Debate Championships (WSDC).The Canadian team advanced to the quarter finals, losing on a 3-2 decision to England. Metropolitansky set a new record for the best individual result of any Canadian debater since Canada began attending the world championships three decades ago, finishing in second place. The team competed against 250 debaters from 50 countries.
2018 Elementary Teacher of the Year Award from the local Ontario Council for Exceptional Children
Stacey Falconer, teacher at Lakeshore Public School, was awarded the 2018 Elementary Teacher of the Year Award from the local Ontario Council for Exceptional Children. It recognizes the work of teachers who demonstrate "exemplary contributions" to students with special needs.

Ontario Association for the Support of Physical And Health Educators awarded two HDSB teachers with Teacher Leader Advocacy Awards, based on colleague nominations. Anita MacDougall, Emily Carr Public School and Nikki Sharpe, P.L. Robertson Public School were awarded.
