Founders’ Academic Merit Scholarship through the University of Guelph-Humber. “Craig Kielburger SS has incredible teachers who guided me to be the student I am today,” says Maryam. “My teachers really wanted me to succeed which motivated me to do better.”

Danielle Allen, graduate of M.M. Robinson HS is a recipient of a volleyball scholarship to Eastern Illinois University. “M.M. Robinson helped me develop into a hard working athlete and taught me perseverance and determination,” says Danielle. Danielle credits the
Pathways meetings she had with guidance and gym teachers for helping her make an informed decision about post-secondary education. Danielle intends to study psychology at Eastern Illinois University and play Division 1 volleyball. “My goal is to become a therapist for adolescents,” says Danielle.

Manon Garde, graduate of White Oaks SS is a recipient of an Air Cadet Power Pilot Scholarship, a
Canadian Federation of University Women-Oakville Scholarship, an
IODE Oakville Bursary, a May Court Club of Oakville Educational Award and a
University of Waterloo Merit Scholarship. “White Oaks SS offers a wide range of academic programs and extracurricular activities for every student ability and interest in a remarkable environment of acceptance and inclusion,” says Manon.

Daniel Hoogsteen, graduate of Nelson HS is a recipient of a
Schulich Leader Scholarship. The Schulich Leader Scholarship is awarded to a student intending to pursue a career in scientific research, technology, engineering or innovation. “At Nelson I was surrounded with teachers and peers who supported my education and the extracurricular endeavors that helped me earn this scholarship,” says Daniel. “My teachers were all encouraging and provided a space to explore the curriculum and grow as a student.”

Hanna Jandrew
Hanna Jandrew, graduate of Iroquois Ridge HS is a recipient of a
Canadian Federation of University Women-Oakville Entrance Scholarship,
Oakville Optimist Club Youth Appreciation, the OPC Award and a Student of Excellence Award. Hanna explains how Iroquois Ridge HS incorporates lecture-style lessons into Grade 12 classes to prepare students for post-secondary education. Students are taught how to build upon their learning outside what is taught in the classroom. “Eventually, what we learned in class became the basis for our knowledge on the topic as we self-researched,” says Hanna. “I no longer feared difficult questions but looked at them as a challenge.”

Duncan McCallum, graduate of Milton District HS is a recipient of the G. Melbourne Music Scholarship through the
Halton Learning Foundation. “I have always loved music class and this past year put a lot of time and effort into preparing an audition for post-secondary music studies,” says Duncan. “With the help of my music teachers, I prepared an audition for universities and performed the same music at the New Street Education Centre.”

International Baccalaureate (IB) program, Sidrah feels confident and prepared for university. “White Oaks’ IB program taught me how to cope and manage an intense and vigorous workload that simulates university.”

Jeff Dickins Memorial Award, an M.M. Robinson Student Council Award, a
Queen’s University Admission Bursary and the
Lesley Family Entrance Award through Queen's University. “My schooling at M.M. Robinson gave me many opportunities to lead, to listen to and be surrounded by people who have different interests, goals, backgrounds and skills from my own,” says Zion. “I learned how to collaborate and empathize with people, and how to adapt in unpredictable situations - all of these skills will be invaluable during my post-secondary education and throughout life.”

Emily Williams, graduate of Iroquois Ridge HS is a recipient of a Rotary Education Award, a Don MacDonald Optimist Club of Oakville Bursary, a
Canadian Federation of University Women-Oakville Community Service Award the Altruist Club of Oakville Award, the
May Court Club of Oakville Community Service Award. Emily says Iroquois Ridge HS played a large role in preparing her for post-secondary education. “In my Grade 12 Biology class, the teacher taught certain lessons in a university lecture style and had us practice taking notes,” says Emily. In this style of learning, students practice taking university level tests to prepare them for a smooth transition to a post-secondary learning environment.
