Highlights of the results from the 2017/18 Education Quality and Accountability Office (EQAO) were presented to Trustees at the September 19, 2018 Board meeting.
EQAO data was shared with Trustees at the October 3, 2018 Board meeting. The data was also presented as Infographics for Grade 3/6,
Grade 9 Math and Grade 10 Literacy and posted on the Board website and social media platforms to assist stakeholders in understanding these results and to highlight the work of students and staff and plans for continued support of professional learning.

Highlights of the 2017/18 EQAO data include:
- Grade 9 Applied Math, results increased from 52% to 54% this year. This is nine percentage points above the provincial average of 45%.
- The success rate for students writing the Grade 10 Literacy Test (OSSLT) for the first time decreased by two percentage points from last year to 85%. This is similar to the drop in the provincial average from 81% to 79%.
- Results in Grade 3 Reading, and Grade 6 Reading and Writing are the highest ever achieved in the HDSB. Grade 3 Reading results show a percentage point gain from the previous year from 82% to 83% which is eight percentage points above the provincial average of 75%. Grade 6 Reading results show an improvement to 88% from 87% in the previous year. The provincial average for Grade 6 Reading is 82%.
- Grade 6 Writing, students achieved 87% - seven percentage points higher than the provincial average of 80%. This result is an improvement from the previous year’s Grade 6 Writing assessment by one percent.
